This poster is a good example of a documentary as the image on the screen already captivates you and makes the viewer curious about the content. The subheading states "My land, Our Land, Iceland."
The title reads "Future Of Hope." yet the and is empty apart from a single crop sprouting from the soil. This suggests a new start for the country of iceland and maybe suggests environmentalist topics in the film. The title is also underlined, indicating that the film will be a statement piece.

The poster for the documentary "The business of recovery" shows a capsule of paracetamol being split open and money falling out of it. In my opinion the poster is indicating that the pharmaceutical industry profits immensely from their customers that spend billions on medication every year. This is a message already just from an image which will make viewers want to find out how they are doing this, leading them to watch the documentary. The colours of the poster are very eye-catching and refreshing, which may hint that the content may be the same.

This poster shows a man walking on a wire, but it isn't in high definition making the viewer of the poster skeptical of the authenticity of the image. The viewer would then want to research the film, thus leading them into collecting an interest for the film. The image is very minimalistic, with dissolved textures and cool tones, which may be due to the fact that this is a more thrilling/serious documentary. The content is probably aimed at adults as the poster isn't overly dramatic.

The poster doesn't display any information to inform the viewer what the perfect human diet is, but just shows a fork with a steak pierced through the top of it. This leads to the viewer wondering what the poster is about and then researching the film title. Also, the imagery used is subtly controversial as many people survive on a plant based diet and would be offended that meat would be the heading of such a statement, developing conversation, thus advertising the film. A quote from the daily apple is used at the top of the image in order for the film to be seen as successful to others as a large co-operation is backing their documentary. The font is bright yellow in comparison to the grey, dreary background, making the text stand out as it is the attention grabbing statement that will get the public talking.

This documentary is entitled "Breathing Underwater" and is a Korean documentary that talks about the poaching industry underseas and the mass killings of many species in the south east asian ocean. The poster shows an underwater diver poaching a small fish for leisurely purposes. This image will spur a reaction out of the public as it's emotive and evokes a reaction and assimilates the audiences curiosities about the content. The colour and design of the poster is appropriate towards the advertisement of the film as it looks aesthetically pleasing but also correlates with the oceanic temper of the film.

This documentary is about a singer who performs for prisoners. The poster has multiple designs, that are both very impactful and loud. The first one (left) shows the inside of a guitar with hands clutching onto the strings from the insides as if to imitate a jail cell. The guitar is used as a metaphor as the film is taken part in a prison where music is still very prominent. As a viewer of this poster, I would question this image and feel inquisitive about the storyline, maybe i'd go as far as to try and predict the plot. This would lead to me watching the film to find out. The colours of this poster are very vintage looking, suggesting that the film may be set in an earlier period or that the target audience is adults rather than children despite the lack of an age rating.
My Poster

I chose to make my image have a direct connotation with my film subject even though my genre was abstract. However, I still wanted to make my poster interesting, so I opted with an artistic I chose to fill a glass full of tablets and candy and directly link it to a calculator to make the viewer think about what this could symbolise. The tablets and candy being together in one glass is meant to represent how society takes medications so habitually, it's almost as if they're eating candy. The red cable sweet is connected to a calculator like a charger to show how the pharmaceutical industry profits off of our consumption. The background has an office feel to show that the people behind these things are white collar. I chose to keep the text simple as I feel the image is already baring and eye-catching. The text is slightly distorted, which makes the poster look slightly skewed (like the abstract approach of my film.) The heading states who the curator is so the audience can research the creator and watch their other works. I chose to use a cool colour as my documentary is very biased and one-sided, giving it a "cool" edge. I achieved this by creating a new layer over my original image and used a blue fill, lowering the opacity to make a filter. The sweets are a deep red to draw attention to the tablets. The calculator is at an edge but is still very vocal in the picture so that the audience can question why it had been included.
Overall, I think for my first attempt at a poster I did well as I've conveyed a message with a clear purpose and designed a tool that will draw potential viewers to my film.
