Radio play & Evaluation

My radio play was made on Adobe Audition and the Titles and video were made on premiere pro. There were no synching issues as I just needed to display a credit title onto an image. I did make the mistake of using Chopin's name instead of Shubert's in the credits, but unfortunately, the program won't allow me to fix the issue.

Adobe Audition was fairly easy to use as it was a lot like a program I used when I was growing up (Audacity).

I wanted to play with the pitch and volume of some of the narration parts, so I used waveform in order to manipulate the audio in the way I wanted.

Using the select tool, you can highlight the parts of audio you want to change and drag them to a higher or lower decibel.

Also, using the stereo input system, you can choose what side of the speaker the audio is more prominent on. You can also lower the volume of the track, but not as delicately as you can when playing with waveform. You can also mute tracks or play tracks solo, when editing other audio that overlaps.

Another useful feature is Essential Sound. It allows you to play with how the audio sounds, not volume wise but with the sound effects you can add to your Dialogue, Music, SFX and ambience. This was very helpful when recording my court scene as I could make certain scenes sound distant and other parts sound close up.

There was also a feature called track effects that let you change the audio, but this feature adds the sound effect to your entire track, not just separate audio bites. I used this effect on my monologue track, adding the 'wide spooky echo' to make my character sound like she was writing in her diary... dream-like, even.

In conclusion, I found making a radio play very enjoyable. At times it was challenging, as it was my first time writing an audio play and then recording and editing it. I wouldn't say that it's my strong point, but in my opinion, it was pretty good for my first time.

THINGS I LEARNT:

- How to record a radio play.

- How to write and structure a script.

- How to use Adobe Audition and manipulate waveforms to effectively curate different elements of sound and narration.

THINGS TO DO NEXT TIME:

- Make sure my radio play is louder when recording to save time editing.

- Make sure any unscripted background noise is edited out (or re-record each sequence to avoid catching onto mistakes in the final edit.)
