Today, we were asked to write the same genre.
I chose to write small sections in the genres horror, comedy and romance (in that order.)
Writing the same scenes in different genres allows us as the directors to get used to what conventions we should be using to make the genre apparent to the audience.
Here are my scenes.
I walked through the eerily narrow corridor, a caliginous air swamping my vision as I struggled to see where I was going. The only source of light that guided my sight were the candlelit chandeliers that hung threateningly low in comparison to my miniscule figure.
As I reached the end of the hallway, a door stood in front of me. I heard a peculiar set of shuffling and a faint string of laughter as I approached the door knob, only to find out there wasn’t one.
This was strange. Too strange. I wanted to turn back, but I couldn’t. My brain pulsated with an intrusive curiosity. I had to find out what, or who was behind these walls.
And so I knocked.
The laughter grew louder, violent almost . It was as if the halls were shaking with a twisted amusement.
The door fell open. And my boyfriend stood before me.
But his face.
His face was cut right open.
I skipped through the cramped hallway, not caring about the chandeliers that occasionally collided into my strangely massive forehead. I couldn't really see were i was going, but I didn't really care.
As I reached the end of the corridor, a door stood in front of me.
I kicked it open with full force and a crowd of white children standing around a cake greeted me and started singing "happy birthday" using what seemed to be their full lung capacity,
I couldn't believe they remembered my birthday!!!
I cut the cake, and went to get a slice when suddenly i fell forward into the red velvet.
It tasted great.
I walked slowly through the hallway, thinking about her. I can't believe she sent me to such a obscure place, but I was excited to see her. The floorboards were scattered with rose petals and the air was filled with a strong scent of vanilla. The lights were so dim, and my other senses were overwhelmed, it almost felt like I was drunk.
I reached the door, but somebody opened it before I had the chance to.
It was her.
She fell into my arms and dragged me into the room.
