This is my final edit for my final short film trailer. The trailer is called "where do we go?" and it's about a young girl called chia introducing people to soho, the new gay scene. It's a place to go for lgbtq youth, and she wants to show it off to her friends.
What I did well:
I targeted a specific audience (The LGBTQ youth community in London) and communicated my understanding of the group in my trailer as I visited the most popular gay spots in London (SHE Bar, Heaven). Using aesthetically pleasing rhymically placed shots with interesting colors keeps a younger audience interested. I also used music that young people would like (R&B), and it flows well with the video, creating a mellow atmosphere that you can relax to while watching.
I think having a voiceover at the beginning helps the viewers know what's going on in the trailer. I also make the main character evident by making her the first to appear on screen as it's important to show your potential audience who will be in the film and what role they will play (main character, extras, co-actor, etc). Also, our survey participants did request that a voiceover should be used, and since this is a trailer, we need to appeal to the masses and not just our own tastes.
I used a title 'soho at night' in the beginning to tell the audience where the film will be taking place and I used titles in the end to tell the viewers the name of the film and when it will be premiering. Without these details, a trailer would be pointless as the viewer wouldn't know how to ind the film when it came out or what date it premieres.
What I didn't do well:
First and foremost, I didn't have time to make another title with the directors name in it. This is a massive flaw on my part, as people won't know who created the trailer and won't be able to recognize it as my work. I could've used a logo or a watermark as an establishment.
I also think others would say that I could've used more of a voiceover to let people know what was going on in the clip. Personally, I think my music choice tells my story for me and so I only included a V.O in the beginning to introduce my film.
What I could improve on:
I think that the quality of the title sequences could have been more professional looking as some would say it ruins the quality of my edit. I also would critique the quality of my voiceover. It sounds grainy, like it was recorded on a phone. It does add a vintage like feel to my work, but it wasn't purposeful.

I shared my finished film on twitter, and some of the responses I got made me re-assured that I targeted the right audience (As most of my followers are LGBTQ+ friendly) and captivated them in the right way. My father also shared the film to his social media and got the same sort of response.
One of his commenters was of the age of 68, which just shows that the film trailer can be enjoyed by people of all ages.
