Hello.
(I have been away due to surgery for two weeks. In this time, I have received emails about what has been going on in class, and I have been eager to catch up. Some of my blog posts may be in an inaccurate order, as I will be doing work that the rest of my class has completed.)
I was given a new project, to make a promotional video for London. Since I was absent, I was put into a group with Tatum, Sherene and Preaya. We had originally planned the concept of going to different parts of London and shooting a film from a foreign friends point of view. I suggested we focus on Brixton as a whole as it's local to all of us, and we know it very well.

Brixton is a bustling multicultural town bearing a strong sense of community. With a variety of high street shops, an easily accessible train station at the end of the Victoria line and a linage of refreshing black history, I wanted to highlight and promote Brixton as a tourist attraction, and also stray away from some the stereotypes that outsiders and London residents have about the area. The misconception of it being rough and dangerous cam from the brixton riots in 1981 and many other events such as Margret Thatcher's death being celebrated, as seen below.

Most importantly, the area is known for it's music and food scene. Brixton boasts an indoor market on electric avenue, (the first market to be lit with electric light) and an indoor arcade with fresh food and products from all over the world including Asia, Africa and the Caribbean islands. The outdoor market was built in 1870's on Atlantic street and the indoor arcade markets were built between 1920 and 1930. Brixton is also home to one of the few 02 venues around London, with various indie bands and musicians playing in the evenings. Even when the sun is up, music won't stray far away from your ears as street musicians and buskers fill the streets with steel pans and contemporary rock.
And for those who are more interested in the history of Brixton, Windrush Square is an excellent place to visit. It was named in commemoration of the West Indian immigrants that arrived on the Windrush in 1948 and challenged the norms of British society, making England the racially diverse country it is today.
